Husband University: Professor Jimmy Is In - Personal Retreats

(Husbands take notes...)

Jimmy watched The Small People this weekend.

He sent me on a personal retreat. I stayed in a gorgeous old home near the Baylor University campus.

I was served breakfast and tea every morning by a sweet older couple. I ate my food while it was still hot (!) and I enjoyed conversing (uninterrupted!) with some very interesting people (a geophysicist, an executive board member of the Baylor Healthcare System, and the 91 year old widow of a reknowned Baylor president.)

I went running in the cool of the morning around the campus of my alma mater.

I spent a couple hours reading and praying in one of the most beautiful buildings in Texas (The Armstrong Browning Library).

And then I thought, prayed and wrote some more as I sat on a swing that hung from a sprawling oak tree. In the distance the campus bells played The Sound of Music.

The weather was simply perfect.

Just like my weekend.

Just like Jimmy.

Thank you Jimmy.

(Oh, and last night I walked down the street to a Dave Barnes / Andy Davis concert. Like I said. Perfect.)

FYI - I didn’t take those pics. Click the pic for the credits...I wouldn’t want anyone to be unduly impressed with my photography skills…

But seriously, not a bad idea. What do you think Kat when I say I wonder if she’d not want to do it unless she went with someone? Would that even make a difference or is it just me thinking that would ‘spoil’ it or something?

Travis,
Looks like you have some retreat planning to do…

Sarah,
“hot food” - yeah, it’s kind of weird, but it’s really tasty. Did you know that cheese is gooey when it’s hot? Yup. It’s true. grin

Chris,
I think some people would honestly prefer to not go somewhere alone. I’m a thinker, though, and I loved having lots of time to think and write.

Honestly, though, the most refreshing part was Saturday. Just having the whole day ahead of me to read, pray and get some vision for what I’m doing as a mom was wonderful.

You might even consider talking to some of your wife’s friend’s hubands and sending them away together. They could go their separate ways during the day and then they could socialize and have fun in the evenings.

Or, if you have family around to watch the kids, you could go on a retreat as a couple and just make sure you each get a good chunk of dedicated alone time.

Does that kind of answer your question?

Yes it does Kat. Still working on developing good friends around here I think… but then again, that’s ‘my view’ not hers. No family right around here…
