The Anatomy of A Wasted Evening: iTunes, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill and YouTube

The other night I sat down to get things done and somehow I got nothing done.

Here’s how the evening went:

1. I have a pretty full to do list. I’d better get to work!

2. But first, I think I’ll check my email.

3. Hmm...an iTunes New Music update. I wonder what’s new?

4, Nothing terribly interesting...oh, is that Carrie Underwood? I’ve heard of her. I remember my family talking about her at Thanksgiving and saying they really liked her.

5. Have I heard that she’s a Christian? Well, I’ll click this link really quick and check her music out.

(iTunes opens and pulls up her page)

6. Her sound is ok. I wonder what other people have to say. I’ll read a couple of these reviews really fast.

7. What’s this? Several reviewers say that the video for her single is supposed to be really good? I’ll go check it out.

(iTunes videos load really slowly)

8. This is taking too long. I’ll just go do a search at YouTube.

9. C-A-R-R-I-E U-N-D-E-R-W-O-O-D

(The video comes up and I watch it then I look over at the sidebar to see her other videos...)

10. Hmmm....it seems there was some controversy about Carrie Underwood and Faith Hill. I think I heard something about that. I wonder what it’s all about. I’ll watch this video just for a minute.

11. Wow. Is Faith Hill’s response for real? I’ll read a few of these comments to see what other people think.

12. I wonder what CMT has to say about it. I’ll just do a news search over at their site really fast and read some commentary.

13. ...that commentary wasn’t very conclusive. Perhaps I should watch the video a few more times.

(10 minutes later...I glance at the clock...)

(Feeling as though I’ve been slapped by the reality police.)

14 . OH MY GOSH! WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING? I just spent an hour evaluating and analyzing the response of a complete stranger who was only potentially upset about not winning an award in a musical genre that I don’t even care about!!!

WHAT?? I can’t believe I just did that!!!!

Lol, that is so my time on the internet!  It’s such a beautiful way to waste so much time!

I fall into time warps like that too often.

By the way, right now I’ve got Carrie Underwood sandwiched between Rascal Flats and Kelly Clarkson in a game of Musical Free Association.  Wait, that didn’t sound too good, did it.  It’s a family show; I promise!

Yup, that’s how it’s done.  I do the same thing occasionally.  Once I start messing around the time seems to fly.

That sounds like my work day sometimes.  I don’t know how I do it, with a full to do list, I still manage to realize how little I’ve accomplished only by the 1:00 before dinner time mark.  Luckily I can crank a lot of work out during that last hour!

Whew! I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one…

And isn’t it funny how important it seems when you’re in the midst of it?

I’ve GOT to check this out really quick....
